Recently we attended some of the tours and talks as part of Dunedin’s Heritage Festival for 2021. One building we toured was the Dominican Priory on Smith St.
The St Dominic’s Ladies College is on the left and the convent is on the right of the Dominican Priory.
One area that particularly intrigued me was the the music practise and teaching room. At some later stage after the building was erected, one of the rooms has been modified to allow for four practise rooms as well as some space remaining, possibly as a teaching space.
Each cubicle was completely lined with double-glazed glass so that any girl practising in one would not disturb another. And, considering that all of the walls and door were glass, the nuns could check on what the girls were doing.
