This ABRSM certificate for Muriel Sutton Smith was formerly in a picture frame. It differs a little in comparison with the certificates from 1918 and 1919 in that the name of the Local Representative and the Chief Examiner are shown on this certificate.
Muriel Sutton Smith was born in Christchurch in 1900 and died in the same city on the 12th July 1951. She was a school teacher and she is buried with her parents in Linwood Cemetery.
Her teacher, Miss Alice Greenaway Gibb, died on the 20th July 1970. She was born in Christchurch on the 11th December 1886. Alice Gibb attended Christchurch East School, she was admitted on the 16th July 1894 and left on the 11th December 1990. Her will is a detailed document and she left numerous items to her nieces and nephews. Her father, John Walker Gibb, was an art dealer who sadly became bankrupt during the depression.
